If your not a fan, of these games, I recommend picking up this or another musou game on sale just to try it. Thanks to the legendary hero Shion Bladearts, wielder of Excalibur, and his loyal band of companions, the Gate was sealed off and the demonic threat was vanquished. It keeps things fresh enough to be interesting gameplay wise, and berserk setting is very appealing for this genre. Far to the north of the world lies Hells Gate, a portal formerly used by the Demon Lord to invade the human realm. The tl dr of this review is if your a musou fan this game is a really good iteration of old familiar formula. Also the dark setting with all it's violence and gore works really good for a beat 'em up game. Berserk, although again, I suggest you read the manga to experience this story, is much better than any story previously told in this genre. They tell the same story over and over again, and it wasn't very good or well told the first time. Musou games traditionally don't have great stories. One thing I will say about the berserk setting though, is that it works really good with this genre. Maxing out characters, unlocking weapons and gear, and getting the best rank on each level (which can be quiet challenging). The appeal for most musou fans is completion. you're MUCH better off reading the manga to get the story, and that's not what makes musou games fun. If your goal is just to beat this game once and be done, you won't find that very rewarding. I'm not gonna sugar coat it, Musou games aren't for everyone. I completely disagree, I think it's way more important to be a Musou fan to enjoy this game. The reason I'm saying all this, is I see a lot reviews saying this game is carried by the the Berserk setting, and that you need to be a berserk fan in order to enjoy it. The formula just works, sure adding a new mechanic here and there to keep things fresh, new characters, or in this case, a new setting is always appreciated. Each new iteration of the games doesn't change much, and when they tried to make big changes (I'm looking at you DW9!) it has not been well recieved. After a while though, you kind of know what to expect. I've played a lot of musou games, I'm a pretty big fan. I may update if I change my opinion o this game, but I don't think that is going to happen for reasons I will go into in a sec. First off, you may note, at the time of review, I have only played 2 hours.
